Catholic Scripture Study International
Catholic Scripture Study International was founded in 2003 and publishes more than 30 Bible and faith-related study programs. CSS studies are authored by well-known Bible scholars - such as Dr. Scott Hahn, Steve Ray, Mike Aquilina and Mark Shea - and are led in hundreds of parishes, universities, and organizations across the country.
- CSS is pleased to bring you this short study series exploring the documents of the Second Vatican Council. Most Catholics are familiar with Vatican II and have likely heard the phrase, "…in the spirit of Vatican II…". However, few Catholics have actually read the documents. Consequently, the "Spirit of Vatican II" has come to mean many different things depending upon the source. We encourage all Catholics to take the time to study these important documents for themselves to discover the ideas that accurately reflect the Council teachings.

Commentary by Steve Ray - presented by Fr. Patrick Winslow
The Acts of the Apostles is the first history of the Church, and as such, merits a study as careful as it is well-researched. Luke’s motive in writing this book was very simple: to defend and teach the new faith in a beautiful work of apologetics.
Steve Ray and Fr. Patrick Winslow are your guides on this 1,000+ verse journey into the hearts and minds of the early Christians. Harmonizing history, theology, and eternal truth, St. Luke’s witness is a stirring invitation to follow the one he followed—the one who brought death to its knees.
In 28 comprehensive lessons, you will learn:
-How the Apostles’ message of repentance is just as vital for us today
-Why the Church was able to survive brutal, constant persecutions
-How we can be filled with the same Holy Spirit that inspired Peter, Paul, and all the early Christians
The Acts of the Apostles are the acts of those with hearts on fire. We are called to the same fearless love, no matter what challenges or persecutions come our way. Let Steve Ray and Fr. Winslow unpack this story of hope for you, and let your heart beat with the same fervor that inspired the first Christians.
The study examines the Scriptural basis of Mel Gibson's movie, The Passion of the Christ, and looks at how this powerful portrayal of the suffering and death of Jesus relates to the Bible and the teachings of the Catholic Church. Designed to be used alone or in conjunction with the movie, Jesus' Passion is suitable for individual or group study.

Advent Cycle B: Preparing for Christ – December 2017
4 Week Personal or Group Study with Fr. Mitch Pacwa
(Cycle B begins December 3, 2017)
Join us this Advent as we take 4 weeks to prepare ourselves for the coming of Christ! Are we ready for the King? Are our hearts ready to receive our Savior? The four weeks leading up to Christmas mark the beginning of the Western Church's liturgical year. Advent is our time for reflection, meditation and preparation.
This year the Sunday gospel readings at Mass come from the Gospel of Mark. Our engagement with this gospel, woven with other parts of Scripture, like Isaiah, 1 Corinthians, and 2 Samuel creates a beautiful tapestry of prepared anticipation for the Christ Child coming to the world and into our hearts.
This study follows the Catholic Scripture Study format but concentrates on the Sunday lectionary readings and incorporates the ancient method of Lectio Divina (praying the scriptures). Lectio Divina is a powerful way to ‘hear’ God speaking to us personally through scripture.
To prepare, each participant reads the Sunday readings along with the "Points to Ponder" commentary, answers the Study Questions & Questions for Reflection and "prays the scriptures".
Added elements: Catechism Connections, Rome to Home and Voices of the Saints.
Individual Study Guide (answers included separately)
Author: Cindy Morales
Presenter: Fr. Mitch Pacwa

Discover Joshua, a faithful leader carrying out God's commands followed by the deteriorating faith and failure of the Judges but concluding with the heart-warming story of grace and redemption in Ruth!
This 28 lesson study examines 3 important books of the Old Testament...
- St. Jerome likened the book of Isaiah as the gospel of the Old Testament because Isaiah prophesied more about the Messiah than any other book in the Old Testament. He also described in great detail the blessings of the future kingdom of the Messiah. His coming would be as a lion bringing the day of God's wrath, but first He would come as a Savior who would die for the sins of the people. Isaiah focuses on the salvation that will come through the Messiah. Some examples include Isaiah, chapter 9, where we’re told that the Messiah will one day rule in justice and righteousness; the eleventh chapter states that during the reign of the Messiah there will be peace and safety for Israel and according to Isaiah 42:6 and 55:4, through the Messiah, Israel will be a beacon of light to all the nations. The Messiah’s kingdom on earth (Isaiah chapter 65-66) is the goal towards which all of the Book of Isaiah points.
Commentary by Scott Hahn and Mark Shea - presented by Fr. Matthew Kauth
The Gospels themselves include hardly any details about who Matthew was, but we have him and the Holy Spirit to thank for the beautiful, earth-shattering Gospel he composed. Matthew’s main point is simple and profound: Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of the Old Covenant.
Matthew’s Gospel also is the only one to explicitly mention the Church: “You are Peter, and on this rock I will build my Church” (Matthew 16:18). Matthew shows very clearly how this Church is Jesus’ Kingdom of Heaven on earth, and he preserves the teaching of Christ in a timeless, well-structured way.
Scott Hahn, Mark Shea, and Fr. Matthew Kauth pull you into the world of this New Covenant with years of experience and insight.
In 28 fascinating lessons with a 1,000+ verse exegesis, you will learn:
-Why the long genealogy from Matthew 1 is so important
-The strategy Jesus gave us to fight Satan in the deserts of our own lives
-How the Beatitudes are Heaven’s response to our earthly desires
We hear the Gospels so much at Mass that it can be hard to look at them with fresh eyes. In this study, however, you will read Matthew as you have never read it before—and in the process, come one step closer to knowing what a priceless gift we have in the Holy Spirit and the works he inspired.
Commentary by Scott Hahn and Mark Shea - presented by Fr. Patrick Winslow
The Book of Romans is dense and potentially imposing, but with years of experience under his belt, St. Paul wrote it for two simple reasons: encouragement and guidance.
This epistle is so packed with theological wisdom that it influenced Christian theology more than anything else Paul ever wrote. In a fascinating 400+ verse exegesis, Scott Hahn, Mark Shea, and Fr. Patrick Winslow spare no expense in breaking down the rich ideas for you.
In 28 detailed lessons, you will learn:
-The difference between “hearers of the law” and “doers of the law”
-What it means to be “under the power of sin,” and how to move past it
-How Christ fulfilled the law and the prophets by his blood
Don’t let its length fool you—this is one of the most powerful explorations of grace and the Christian life ever written, and anyone can share in its riches with a good guide. Let Scott Hahn, Mark Shea, and Fr. Winslow be that guide for you as you peer into the depths of Paul’s heart, which beat so much for Christ that he inspired a whole Church!
